Just a few moments ago, the band Noori updated their fans about an upcoming GIG of them in Karachi, which they are organizing themselves for the first time. The Ali brothers created hype for the event in a video blog, as they named the gig ‘NOT TO BE MISSED’ .

Like all we were also curious to know about what they are actually offering in the GIG. Some said it would be Exclusive Merchandise or Goodies, some were of the view that they might collaborate with Qayaas – a rock band to whom they praised and released their debut album Qayaas -  and so as one friend said It will be premier of their NEW MUSIC VIDEO.

The Sound of Hope concert at the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture drew quite a crowd. Mostly very young people spread across the lawns of the school. While the crowd was an easy one, singing along to Mauj’s funky tunes and laughing at Sami Shah’s sometimes old jokes; it set a new bar for how to judge how big a star someone is.

As soon as Noori came on stage, all the girls who lingered at the back rushed forward in a stream to join the main crowd. After that, Noori could do no wrong. Ali Noor played his part of the rockstar well, and graciously. He pointed out that this was the first time in four years that himself, Hamza and Gumby had played together. And he gave “big shout out” to Omran Shafique who was also playing with them. (more…)

I feel proud when our music artistes come out with religious stuff. Though its in fashion these days like Atif did “Hum Mustafavi Hain” for a commercial & got huge exposure but Ali Hamza came out this time with a “Pure Naat” i.e Without any musical instrument. The Naat is Recited by Ali Hamza, and Ali Noor has Produced the audiovisual for the video, which is Directed by Mandana Zaidi.

I think religion needs to be reconfigured. It has to be revisited from day one. It’s not just about a bunch of militants coming in but about a lot of dogmas that are spread across our society by people who consider themselves to be very religious but are not. They’re very selfish and self motivated individuals. You see, the history of religion is all about that. It’s always that a bunch of people are using religion for personal motives. It’s all political and that’s the reality of religion. And it’s going to hit them in their face. What people are not realising is that in the West there’s a big anti religion movement coming up. Basically, you’ll see atheism emerge as a new religion in the next 10 years and it’s going to be even worse and scarier. Atheism too will just limit your thought. You have start thinking and reasoning and becoming truth seekers in all aspects of our life as a scientist, economist, as an artist or a musician. You don’t have an option because if you lie it will come straight out to the audiences and they’l kick you out anyway. I see the artistes playing a very important role in the times to come. A much more boarder and global renaissance happening all around the world. And like all change, to be effective, it must start with the artistes.

While LUMS is more widely known for its business graduates and MBAs, the university has become known in recent years for the musical stars it has produced. With bands like Laal and Noori having some of their roots grounded in the institution, LUMS’ musical edge has come forth. This year the Music Society at LUMS is celebrating its tenth anniversary and has called the boys back home for a grand reunion. At a concert featuring a newly reunited EP, Noori, Aunty Disco Project and Laal, Instep Today met up with one of the Society’s most renowned names – Ali Hamza of Noori – to talk about his own musical experiences and his thoughts on the progress and success of the Society in promoting music at the university.
