As of today, Coke Studio has aired three successful seasons, and today we are going to take you back to the third and the last year season:
The third installment of Coke Studio was aired in between the summers of June and August 2010. Five episodes were aired in the third season and they were entitled Reason, Will, Conception, Form and Realisation. Arooj Aftab is the second Pakistani after Mekaal Hasan, who studied in Berklee School Of Music on a Steve Vai Scholarship. She is an acclaimed Sufi Musician, Vocalist and Songwriter and has paid tribute to Sufi Legends like Abida Parveen and Reshma.
The famous western musician Steve Vai has said about Arooj: “A girl like this, with drive and ability and goals, she’s going to inspire a lot of people. That’s how you get evolution.”
I am sharing here today his latest new live performance, and wondering If she should be part of Coke Studio Season 4 or not ? would definitely like to hear from you as some/many people also call this artist ‘over-rated’. What do you say ? Over-rated or under-rated ? Is she really a Coke Studio material ? or I have lost my mind today.

Some of the most cherished songs in Pakistan’s musical history have come from Abida Parveen, ghazal
and kalam singer – who really does not need an introduction. Abida’s music has touched the lives of many and she is famous the world over. Yet she will still not hop aboard the bandwagon that is Bollywood music.
“The taste and touch of Sufi music started coming in Bollywood through my song ‘Thaiyyan Thaiyyan’, which was converted into ‘Chaiyyan Chaiyyan’ (Dil Se),” Abida says, “then it started spreading and many films started having songs with a Sufi touch. Today it has become really popular in Bollywood, which is a good thing. These songs keep love and humanity intact. That’s why these songs connect with people and touch souls.” (more…)
