Pakistani youth oriented music talent show, Uth Records 2.0, is just round the corner and we are hearing that one of the major producers of the show won’t appear in this season’s episodes.
Apparently, the music producer and talented guitarist Omran Shafique will not feature in this year’s Uth Records. Omran who has been an integral part of the show along with two other music producers; Gumby and Zeeshan Pervez; couldn’t give enough time to Uth Records session this year. Sept.18, 2011 - Karachi, the 10th Lux Style awards were held at Expo Center Karachi last night and finally we have all the official results announced in the show. This year it was bigger than last two years and the nominations of it were announced nearly two months ago in 22 Television, Music and Fashion Categories.
The red carpet of the show, sponsored by a clothing brand Bonanza, was hosted by VJ Mathira and all big names of media including fashion designers, photographers, Models, Actors and Actresses, couples from the industry, Musicians, media journalist and many other spotted with her on red carpet. Pakistan’s prestigious and most awaited Awards show – Lux Style Awards 2011 – nominations have been announced in 22 Television, Music and Fashion Categories.
This time, Music categories have only 3 nominations (it used to be 5 nominations before), which reflects the lack of releases during the year 2010. As per the press release for Awards Show, the music jury preferred to leave the nominations blank than recognize ‘mediocre‘ work. The music jury of Lux Style Awards had the objection that Pakistani Bands and Singers only released Singles rather than Complete Albums. There were no concerts, so most of their work was appeared overseas, specially in neighboring country, India. (more…)

Let’s head back one year or so. A band called “The Sketches“ made their debut album ‘Dastkari‘ and launched their first two music videos ”Maujood” which was based on peace and harmony and their folk song depicting the story of the romance of ”Momal-Rano”.
While writing a review for “Momal-Rano”, I took relief in the thought that at least somebody cares about the ill-fated culture of ours which is facing “depreciation” since long.
I believe that passion and obsession is half way through. To my surprise, The Sketches had proved my belief right, very right indeed! The only musical band which is presently hoisting the flag of Sufi music and which can be called the pioneer of “Sufi Folk Rock” following the footsteps of the trend-setters “Junoon”. (more…)
