Hailing from the highlands of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Rahim Saranjam Khan is a self-taught musician who plays the guitar, piano, harmonium and the melodeon. As the founding member and vocalist of the band JUM and as a vocalist for the band Above. Rahim’s inspirations range from a wide musical repertoire from the now iconic bands of the Seventies to traditional classical musicians such as Javed Bashir and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.

Accompanied by the talented Rakae Jamil on Sitar and Bradley D’Souza on Bass Guitar, Rahim will be performing his original composition ‘Afsoos’, which is an adaptation of the work of poet Ahmed Faraz. Commenting on becoming a musician and his experience at the Ufone Uth Records 2.0 platform Rahim said: “It was quite difficult for me personally to choose a musical career as it is not easily accepted amongst my family. But with my determination to follow my dreams, I am committed to making unforgettable original music for everyone to enjoy. I am confident that with the help of Ufone Uth Records 2.0 team and guest musicians like Rakae and Bradley our country’s true colours and potential will be brought to light.”

As an artist, Sara continues to be inspired by the likes of Faiz, Rumi, Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee, Simon & Garfunkle, The Police, Lauryn Hill, Nayyara Noor, Strings, The Beatles, John Mayer, Nazia Hassan, Stevie Nicks, Geeta Dutt, Phoenix, Adele, Imogen heap, and Pakistan’s very own Zeb and Haniya. She is currently working on various musical projects and to this end is collaborating with composer/musician Ahsan Bari as part of Nritaal creating compositions and melodies inspired by the poetry of Hazrat Amir Khusro and Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Her music is unconfined in both melody and lyric yet aficionado’s will undoubtedly detect the evocative strains of Sufi music within it.

At Ufone Uth Records 2.0, Sara Haider will be performing her song ‘Main Tere Saath Hoon’ which is based on the concept of separation anxiety that can occur while maintaining relationships. About the lyrics Sara Haider said, “I have kept the lyrics as simple and minimal as possible along with the melody so that they don’t break the laid-back feel of the track, but also so that it remains open to interpretation.” Her support and session musicians for her episode in Ufone Uth Records 2.0 are Bass Guitarist and her brother Ali Haider (Nritaal), Imam Hamdani as the lead guitarist, Louis J “Gumby” Pinto for Percussions, Sameer Ahmed for Bass and Hildegunn Oisethon trumpet.

Ufone Chief Marketing Officer Akbar Khan said; “Sara Haider is one of Pakistan’s bright new female artists and we are proud to have her shine at Ufone Uth Records 2.0 – there is little doubt that she will go places owing to her skill and passion and for that we acknowledge her talent and encourage her to step into the limelight to let their voice be heard.”

[Pakistan – Monday 05th March, 2012] Following Ufone Uth Records 2.0artist Jarar Malik, this week the televised youth music platform is set to feature talented artist Affaq Mushtaq on the 10^thof March 2012.

A resident of Rawalpindi, Affaq has previously worked as a session musician at ATV and also as a singer on PTV and currently performs at Monal, an Islamabad based restaurant along with his brother.Affaq Mushtaq will be performing ‘Angunn’ at Ufone Uth Records 2.0,an original composition of his father the late Master Mushtaq, who was a music composer for PTV. For ‘Angunn’, Affaq Mushtaq is accompanied by iconic guitarist Amir Zaki and drummer extraordinaire Louis J‘Gumby’ Pinto on drums, in addition to singing, theversatile Affaq also plays the Tabla, Flute, Keyboard, Harmonium& Guitar.

Speaking about Affaq Mushtaq on the Ufone Uth Records platform Akbar Khan – Chief Marketing Officer at Ufone said: “Through Ufone Uth Records 2.0 Episode Three, we have endeavoured to showcase the diverse talents of Pakistan’s youth – Affaq is distinct from a lot of youth based artists as his music has very strong traditional influences. We look forward to giving him the much deserved boost to break into the music industry with his track ‘Angunn’.”   

Speaking about working with Affaq, producer of Ufone Uth Records, Louis J ‘Gumby’ Pinto said: “Affaq is a certainly our pride on the Ufone Uth Records 2.0 platform. Pakistan once again will experience a child prodigy on the show. His capability as a musician and musicianship is undeniable. An excellent singer, songwriter, keyboard player and tabla player. A complete musician and yet very humble; It was a pleasure for us at Ufone Uth Records to be documenting and recording him on the show. We hope the best for him and look forward to hearing more of Affaq in the future.”

On his experience at Ufone Uth Records Studio, Affaq has said: “I am pleased to be performing at Ufone Uth Records 2.0 alongside the likes of Aamir and the Uth Records team. Though I consider myself a decent singer/musician, I also believe that learning from others is an important step for self-improvement.”

[Pakistan – 28^th February 2012] Following the launch of Ufone Uth Records 2.0 with a first episode that celebrated the journey of Season One’s artists; the anticipated music platform is now set to introduce six new artists, introducing a new musician weekly through six individual episodes. To this end, Ufone Uth Records Episode Two will showcase the work of Jarar Malik on 03 March 2012.

A Pakistani American musician, Jarar Malik will be performing his original track ‘Bewafa’ at Ufone Uth Records 2.0 – a song about heartbreak, something he felt most people have experienced at some level and will be able to relate to. Experimenting with a diverse range of musical genres from pop to rock to R&B, Jarar plays both the guitar as well as keyboards. Season One artist Natasha Humera Ejaz also contributes to this track with her backing vocals as well as audio mixing; Guest musician and bassist Russell D’Souza also features with Jarar on ‘Bewafa’ as does producer Ufone Uth Records and drummer extraordinaire, Louis J ‘Gumby’ Pinto. Through Ufone Uth Records 2.0, Jarar hopes to receive a platform to showcase his art to a wider audience and to connect with them on a musical level.

I sensed a sparking new turning point in mainstream music in his approach. He is confident about his songwriting, his identity as a musician and the kind of music he wants to put out. Jarar Malik on his experience at Ufone Uth Records said “I have been playing for a variety of bands since my childhood and have recorded and produced my own debut album at home however recording my track in a professional studio environment under the guidance of the platform’s producer Louis J ‘Gumby’ Pinto was an absolutely amazing experience altogether.”
