Ali Zafar: Pakistan’s ‘Prince of Pop’
promotes positivity
Ali Zafar manages to come off as a real star in everything that he does. Be it his music, videos or ads – he knows how to shine. On a recent tour the USA, Ali managed to be the star he always, impressing those who came across him as a “Type-A Personality.”
Ali’s last tour in America was in 2007. Speaking to a reporter from Boston newspaper, where he was to perform after Texas, Ali said his decision to come back to America was spurred by the frigid response he had received on previous tours.
“Right after 9/11, the reception wasn’t very pleasant,” he said, “you could sense this vibe that people didn’t want you to be there.”
Ali felt that with the current political climate in Pakistan, and especially the way it is portrayed in foreign media, it was essential to show the world the flipside of the coin – that Pakistani lives are not just about war and politics, but are in fact quite normal. Music, dance and cultural activities according to Ali, are a big part of people’s lives.
“I would like to connect with my fans here, put on some memorable shows, and also be a kind of cultural spokesman for my country,” said Ali, “The idea is to give the youth of Pakistan something that they can be proud of.”
